~Sticks and Stones, Collaboration [YWR Workshop]
Editor’s Note: Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing pieces and spotlighting individual artists from our first You Will Rise Workshop and Exhibition at the Columbus Museum of Art. To kick it off, here are photos of a collaborative installation project led by YWR co-founder Linda Regula titled “Sticks and Stones.” Inspired by the classic (and untrue) saying “Sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt you,” participants created a dark forest filled with the cruel labels and taunts they could remember being called. Through the center of the forest, they created a path of white stones representing the road they try to walk every day. Each grouping of white stones contains a positive word that participants would use to describe themselves.
